SHADY'S POND 2001 PROJECT
JUNE 26, 20001
This project started back in Aug of 2000, I
had a hankering to try something different .... a twin engine
airplane. With my love of Reno racing and the interest in home build
racer designs the Pond was the answer.
Well it didn't stop there. The re were lots
of things to consider and try. My first desire was to keep it a scale
like as possible. This included a swept forward wing and in line
engine thrust/wing and stab design. Numerous ideas was shared and
finally at the end of Aug. 2000 plans where finalized and ink was put
to paper.
The engines selected were Saito 30 four
strokes. Fuel tanks are 3 oz, but during break in on the bench I
believe 2 1/2 oz will be the final choice. Fuel tanks can be operated
on uniflow or pressure. Adjustable throttle control has been
included.
The airframe. Looks funny, looks weird ....
but man does it look sweet. Basically it's nothing more than a
Cardinal 60 in disguise. Yep the wing is box stock cardinal ribs.
Moments are box stock cardinal numbers. Areas are box stock numbers
other than flaps are just a bit larger and the tail area just a tad
larger.

Here she is, not quite finished. ( I have
several more hours of buffing ).
All Brodak Dope Finish. Lots of Candy colors, actually every Brodak
candy available.

Engine Cowls and cheek cowl are molded carbon
fiber.
Landing gear struts are carbon fiber

The Saito 30's look right at home.
These engines are little
jewels. Have run over 2 gallons of fuel through
them on the bench during break in and prop
testing.
Tsunami and the Pond.
Its been a few years since these two have
crossed paths ( in real life ).
First flights of the Pond coming shortly.

and of course Tsunami and Stuntress
both with them killer GMA Jetts.

Stuntress - Jett 50 RE Pipe
Pond completion items: Final engine throttle
fitting. A bit more landing gear strut fitting, a few of those
blasted buff thoughs to fix and it'll be bench trimming time. Oh ya
.... the weight ..... not much more than Stuntress.
Anyhow I have many people to thank
.......
Thanks a million Windy for all your help, advice, control products
and the flow of those SAITO'S .... and those endless supply of video
tapes.
Joe Adamusko, thanks a ton for your design
comments.
Bob Zamelli , for twigging my four stroke interest.
John Brodak, for all those great Brodak products. The candy colors
are simply fantastic !!!!!!!
Next years plans
.... well my wife is still nagging to complete the Gee Bee
project.
Satio 56 bench run sitting on the bench with a set of Valkryie
Plans
Jett 60 RE with muffler just may need a YAK to chase down Tsunami and

Who knows but CL stunt life is grand.
