Question: Can these Structures be upgraded for either corrugated singlewall polycarbonate or twinwall polycarbonate on the side walls.

Answer : Yes. Our PCS and PCSS side wall systems can be added. We simply delete the cost of the double wall poly and add the cost for the PCS or PCSS. The PCS and PCSS ( hard clad system ) includes additional framing steel, aluminum rail for the gutter, corner flashings, the cladding and all the attachments. Our PCSS system is provided with aluminum H splices. All panel lengths are full length supplied 6" long. ( To allow for grade variations ). PCS is single wall corrugated polycarbonate. PCSS is 8 mm twinwall polycarbonate. The same holds true for the roof. All of our structures can be upgraded for PCS or PCSS cladding. Just let us know.


Question : What's the economics of gutter houses.

Answer : In general, the longer you can build your bays, the less costly the per sq. foot basis the project will be. This is because of the gable end materials and the equipment. Furthermore, the wider you make each bay the less costly per sq. foot. Also, bear in mind, the wider bays are less costly to build. There are less columns, less arches etc. etc. to install, so on the large projects it can add up to significant dollar savings.

Question : Gutter vent verses fan shutter or fan/side wall vent systems. When to use ?

Answer : There's a couple things to take into consideration. First environmental conditions. If you are planning to construct 240 foot long buildings and are considering exhaust fans for cooling. Well by the time you move enough air along the length of the structure, the face velocity of the air will be excessive. Enough to induce mechanical stress on some crops. That's not good.

Generally if the bays are 144 feet or shorter, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using exhaust fans for cooling. Just make sure you provide at least one air change per minute. Don't skimp. You'll regret it. Also on the shorter bays exhaust fan cooling is less costly to install. However, if you are concerned about noise ( i.e. retail house ), and the ongoing electrical consumption of power that the exhaust fans use, gutter or ridge venting would be the route to go.


Question : With double poly on the roofs, why do you recommend gutter vents verses ridge vents ?

Answer : Good question. Basically for ease of installation and extended poly life. The problem placing ridge vents in a double poly roof is the hassle. It takes a lot of additional time and ends up with a ongoing maintenance hassle. Furthermore, in cool locations they create an excellent condensation point for dripping. In cold locations, there is the ever present fear of ice cutting the poly.

With gutter vents, all of the above conditions are removed. The roofs are easy to poly and maintain. No high level drips etc. All poly and vent materials serviceable from the gutter.

The only problem with gutter vents is consideration of water flow hydraulics on the gutters during heavy rain storm. But this can be overcome with adequate gutter slope, internal rain water leaders or simply raising the vent say 1 foot off the gutter with and installing a PCSS or poly baffle.


Question : Gutter Heights. Can you provide 14' and 16' under the gutter heights.

Answer : Yes. Just let us know. The cost differential is small. Basically additional column costs, side wall and gable end cladding costs.
