20 Foot Wide Cold Frame Series CF
During each year we must get this question asked of us at least a 100 times.
In short, yes both structures can be considered as "freestanding style" structure.
However, that is as far as the comparison can be made.
A cold frame style structure is in tended for seasonal use.

If you study the two above details you will note the all season series FS freestanding structure will provide you with a greenhouse that has more volume and more verticle head room. Furthermore look at the construction and the loading values of the structure. The Freestanding Structure Series FS will provide you with a far stronger house.
Why go stronger ?.... For those that have their houses in a location that receive spring and winter heavy wet snows ..... you'll be glad that you have a freestanding series FS house over the cold frame series CF house.
Why go stronger ? .... For those that have stronge winds and wind gusts ..... you'll be glad that you have a freestanding series FS house over the cold frame series CF house.
Why go stronger ? .... For those that wish to suspend their overhead crops and baskets ..... you'll be glad that you have a freestanding series FS house over the cold frame series CF house.
Why go stronger ? .... For those that wish to use a double poly roof vent system for max. summer cooling .... you'll be glad that you have a freestanding series FS house over the cold frame series CF house. At least the vent system is tied into stiff structural elements.
Why go higher ? ..... The extra height and volume that the Freestanding Series FS provides allows the grower to raise verticle crops in the summer ( less heat stress ), allows the grower to suspend considerable overhead crops which maximumizes production on a unit ( sq. foot ) basis, provides the ability to overcome temperature stratification ( even in the winter months ), provides the ability to suspend all overhead equipment right from the structure which frees up floor space which in term increase production space.
If you hate pulling poly can replacing poly .... this is where the Freestanding Structure excells. Our reinforced stiff series FS actually extends the life of the poly .... simply because structure movement and stress is not applied back to the poly... This substancially extends the life of the poly.
In short if you are planning to use the structure as a year round operation ..... consider the Series FS freestanding houses over the Series CF cold frames structures. Remember, typically all cold frame structures are designed for seasonal use and were not designed for harsh environmental elements.
